breast cancer prevention

Breast cancer is a notorious form of cancer that is caused when the cells in the breast tissue change are such a way that they keep dividing. This constantly dividing cluster of cells then forms a mass called a tumour.  Many times, they also invade other parts of the body through the bloodstream or lymphatic system which makes it malignant. Statistics have revealed that after skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women.

Generally starting from the milk-producing glands of the breast or the tube-shaped ducts that carry milk from the lobules to the nipple, it is most commonly seen in women over the age of 50. Some of the commonly known risk factors associated with breast cancer are family history, a mutation in the breast cancer gene, hormones, weight, alcohol consumption, radiation history and history of pregnancy.

Common Signs and Symptoms of Breast Cancer are as follows:

  1. Change in the shape, size or appearance of the breast
  2. Nipple which is newly inverted
  3. Lump or thickening of the breast that feels little different
  4. Pitting of the skin over the breast like an orange skin
  5. Peeling, crusting, flaking or scaling of areola and surrounding skin
  6. Clear or bloody discharge from the nipple
  7. Swollen lymph nodes under the arm or around the collar bone. This is an alarming signal of the fact that the breast cancer has spread.

The screening for breast cancer is done by a mammogram which can help to identify the presence of breast cancer before the symptoms. Therefore, routine screening and mammogram are very important to find out the breast cancer in its early stages. Early detection means early treatment and could be a huge life saver. If the symptoms of breast cancer are confirmed then a biopsy of the cell or tissue from the area of the breast is done.

There are different regimens of breast cancer treatment and is dependent on the type of breast cancer, its stage, concerned individual’s age and health. Radiation therapy, chemotherapy and surgery where the affected area is removed are the two main ways of treating breast cancer. A mastectomy involves the removal of the entire breast while lumpectomy  removes only a portion of the cancer containing breast.

One of the alternative therapies that are catching up the pace in anticancer treatments is the use of curcumin. Curcumin is one of the polyphenols that are found in turmeric. Turmeric, in turn, is a golden colored spice which is widely used in Asian cuisines.

Let’s see how Curcumin is Helpful in case of Breast Cancer:

  1. The anti-inflammatory properties of breast cancer help in lowering the levels of high inflammation. Excess of inflammation has been linked to many diseases including cancer. It kills the tumour cells.
  2. The free radicals that are produced in the body give rise to excess of oxidation process leading to a process called oxidative stress. More the oxidative stress, higher are the chances of cell division going haywire. Curcumin is a great antioxidant agent which helps to curb the production of free radicals.
  3. It helps in normalizing the process of cell signalling and growth.
  4. If the patient has already been diagnosed with breast cancer, curcumin helps to stop the metastasis or spread of cancer cells to other parts of the body like lungs etc.
  5. Curcumin is also known to act as a supplement along with the standard chemotherapy. It also helps to nullify the side effects of chemo and radiation therapy like intense pain.

It is important to use curcumin which is pure and reliable for the maximum benefit.  Bagdara Farms has a unique product called Carcirid which has been specially formulated to fight off breast cancer.
